Waking up in Bram's arms was like waking up in a dream world. The fire had died down in the night, but he provided more than enough warmth to keep me from shivering. For a while, I just laid there, enjoying the blissful silence, the peacefulness.

Coming out here was just supposed to be a short break from reality, a way for me to clear my head and get a handle on things. I'd never expected to meet anyone here, certainly not anyone like Bram. He's completely unlike any other man I'd ever met. And not just because he could turn into a massive dragon either. Something about being with him just put my mind at ease. With him by my side, I felt like I could conquer the world.

Bram stirred after a while, and my heart skipped a beat. I really was going to do this, wasn't I? I was going to move to Scotland and live with him... Sure, it probably wasn't the most rational decision I'd ever made, but I also knew it was the right decision. Love wasn't exactly rational either. And I definitely loved Bram. No doubt about it.

It was a luxury not hear every little thing he thought. I could just be with him and trust him.

"Let's bring your things from the cottage," Bram said, his voice still filled with sleep. As if to emphasize this, he let out a yawn, and I chuckled.

I nodded, but instead of getting up, I just snuggled closer against him. He wasn't wrong. We did need to go get my things. But I didn't want to get up just yet. I wanted to enjoy this as long as I could.

Bram laughed and tightened his arms around me. Then, he pressed his lips to my forehead for a quick kiss. "Come on, lass. There will be plenty of time for this later."

I let out a sigh, then nodded as Bram pulled the two of us up off the floor. Once we separated, I shivered, goosebumps covering my flesh. With the fire so low and his arms no longer around me, it was damn chilly! I couldn't wait to get out into the sunlight and let its warmth wash over me.

The moment we're outside, I grab Bram's hand, threading our fingers together. He's stiff for a moment, then he lets out a breath and his entire body seems to relax. It'll take a while for him to relax and get used to this, but I'm willing to be patient. For him, I'd do anything.

The walk back to the cottage is quiet, both of us lost in thought and just enjoying each other's company. A few times, I catch thoughts as we pass people, but with Bram by my side, I can more easily ignore them, and push them out of my head. Something about his presence seems to enhance my control, making it easier and less stressful to filter everything out.

It also helps that there were fewer people in this entire county than there were in a single city block back home.
